Facebook Campaigners Hope Timberlake Gets An Oscar

Back when Justin Timberlake was known as the catalyst for an epidemic of screaming/crying tweeny bopper fangirls who spent every last dime of their allowances to plaster their walls with his shirtless image and wasted every study hall writing his name with little hearts over the Is, nobody knew he would turn out to be such a powerhouse. (Well, I did. But to be fair, my shameful past includes a stint as an 'N Sync fangirl.)

Now, Timberlake is the proud recipient of six Grammys, two Emmys, and most recently, a Facebook campaign in attempt to get him an Oscar for his work in – you guessed it – The Social Network. The movie’s already buzzing with notions of Oscar nods, and Popeater’s Facebook campaign aims to give all that buzz a clear direction. Obviously, we’ll have to wait until Oct. 1 when The Social Network hits theaters, but I don’t think it’s actually so farfetched to think that JT could pull off an Academy Award nomination at some point in his career.

The guy pretty much oozes talent. Even back when he was harmonizing and dancing with those four other pop music puppets, it was obvious that he had a little something extra. (Don’t even try to argue with me; I was there back in the early 2000s, in the front row with mascara running down my face, okay?) And then he’s got those stints on SNL – where did you think those Emmys came from? You have to admit the guy is hilarious. Then he’s got a few movies under his belt – they weren’t all the best overall films, but that never seemed to be Timberlake’s fault.

Okay. It’s totally understandable that seeing the words Oscar and Justin Timberlake in the same sentence comes as a shock. All I’m saying is that it’s not exactly the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.
